FRANCE - ALSACE
ALSACE
In the far east of the country, lies Alsace. A unique
region of Chocolate-box villages, beautiful landscapes
and amazing wines. This area has changed hands
between France and Germany many times throughout
its history. Unusually for France, most Alsace wines
bear the name of the grape, rather than the village
or Chateau. Some of the best dry Riesling hails
from this region, along with the intensely aromatic
Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc,
not forgetting crisp, refreshing Crémant d’Alsace.

CLIMATE EXPOSURE
The Alsace wine-growing area, sheltered from oceanic
influences by the Vosges mountain range and with one
of the lowest rainfalls in France (500 to 600 mm of water annually),
has a semi-continental climate which is sunny, warm and dry.

The natural barrier of the Vosges protects the vineyards
and contributes to the very Alsace-specific climate.
