FRANCE
FRANCE
France is a whole world of wine in one country. Think of
any style of wine, whether it’s a luscious, sweet dessert wine
or a powerful complex red, an aromatic white or a salmon
pink rosé. The world-famous regions of Bordeaux, Champagne
and Burgundy are still the benchmark that all others measure
themselves against, with the less well known but equally
amazing wines from Alsace in the northeast or the terrific
value-for-money of the Languedoc-Roussillon in the far
south, the variety of options is vast.
FAMOUS
Appellation System
France’s appellation system was created in the early 20th Century
and has since been imitated in many other countries. This complex
system of laws ultimately defines each wine region and its boundaries
and imposes strict rules around winemaking practices.
Protecting the names of French wines and guaranteeing the quality
and provenance of the products themselves are its key objectives.
No other country has developed its appellation system to such an extent.
“ Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried,
with fewer tensions and more tolerance.”
