ENGLAND
The Chalk downlands of Kent, Hampshire and
Sussex share a climate and geology very similar
to a certain part of northern France which is ideally
suited to growing the holy trinity of sparkling wine
grapes; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
The quality is so good that the sparkling wines
made in the South-East of England have caught
the attention of the big boys in Champagne such
as Taittinger and Pommery.

Specific Region
Although sparkling wine accounts for most of the wine production
in England, there are some zesty whites and fruity Rosés from
Devon and Cornwall using grapes like Bacchus and Dornfelder.
Reds such as Pinot Noir are available, but rarer, but with longer,
warmer summers, conditions for ripening these grapes are
improving, enabling winemakers to produce more.
