Founder of Berton Vineyards
Located in the New South Wales regional township of Yenda,
Berton Vineyards was founded in 1996 by Bob and Cherie
Berton. Berton Vineyards started out with the belief that
a small group with a single-minded approach could build
something special with nothing more than hard work and
a combined ambition to succeed. Berton Vineyards is a
contemporary winery with the attitude of doing everything to
the best of their ability and succeeding by never disappointing.
Like the rest of the world we
looked forward to 2022 after covid,
but the Russian invasion and the
general feeling of uncertainty that
pervades us all has meant that we
are just marking time until the
future becomes a little clearer.
So we are concentrating on our
quality even more as we see this
as the one factor that we can
influence with certainty.
HOW WAS THE THIS
YEAR GRAPE HARVEST.
We are on the doorstep of the
2023 Vintage and it has been a
challenge for our grape growers,
who have dealt with an extremely
wet spring and early summer, with
many growers facing some minor
flooding. This is Australia so
coming out of a four year drought
of course we will have floods.
WHAT WINES HAVE HIT
THE MARK THIS YEAR?
We are extremely proud of the
2022 whites with the Vermentino,
Fiano and Sauvignon Blanc
leading the way.
HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN
A HEALTH GRAPES FOR
THE BEST HARVEST?
It’s been a high maintenance
year due to the wet so our crops
will be reduced significantly but
it has also been a very mild
summer so the fruit from this
year will be excellent.
WHAT DO YOU
ENJOY GETTING
INVOLVED WITH?
Putting together the final blend
as we fine tune the wines to
find the “WOW” factor.
WINE TO TRY
THIS YEAR?
We are really looking forward to
the release of our Al Fresco range,
aimed at showcasing some of the
more unique varieties grown in
our Region (Vermentino, Fiano,
Aranel and Barbera). The range
is designed to be interactive
with the consumer by linking
the back story to the image.
