NEW ZEALAND
NEW ZEALAND
A relative newcomer to the wine scene, New Zealand
has become a major player when it comes to Sauvignon
Blanc. The grape is grown across both Islands
but Marlborough in the South Island accounts for
90% of production. The signature notes of Gooseberry
and fresh-cut grass have become synonymous with
the region. You’ll find pockets of Merlot, Cabernet
Sauvignon and Syrah in Hawke’s Bay and the Gimblett
Gravels, but Central Otago has gained a reputation
for high quality densely flavoured Pinot Noir.
IN THE KNOW
Specific Region
Marlborough turns out vibrantly textured, intensely aromatic wines.
With its explosive tropical fruit, green herbaceousness, and racy
acidity, Sauvignon Blanc is the region’s (and NZ’s) signature wine,
but other varietals flourish in this vinous paradise.
“A meal without wine is
like a day without sunshine.”
